The best gelato in Lucca is found in this
shop on Via San Paolino. Owned by a friendly
British couple who moved to Tuscany several
years ago, they serve many flavors of gelato
made in their store. I recommend the pinenut
and stracciatella (vanilla with hardened
chocolate drizzled through it) flavors. Great
prices, and company when you stick around
and talk with the owners
This is really a gelateria rather than a
restaurant -- but it is the ideal place to
go after any restaurant meal in Lucca.
The gelateria is run by a nice young British
couple who bought the gelateria, and its
recipes, from the original owners in 2005.
The current owners are fanatical about the
quality of the ingredients they use and freshness
of their gelato. The result is uniformly
delicious, although the fruit flavors are,
in my opinion, the standouts.
Great to see you guys in the blogsphere!
I hope business is good. The remainder of
our trip (after we left Lucca) was mixed.
Rome was just OK (hot, dirty, crowded) but
Sicily was incredible.
Be sure that I will send you any and all
referrals for the best gelato in Lucca!
i miss your gelato. i miss the wood-fired pizza. i miss the italian chatter echoing up through
the windows of sheri and jim's apartment. i miss the clean air of tuscany. (try breathing
the lethal pollutants coming out of the steel
mills of gary, indiana!) and i miss chatting with you guys! (if you ever need another gelato employee,
i'm available!) tracy
